Gas station looks to reopen

PONDSIDE—The owners of JP Oil, located at 525 Centre St., have started work on the property in hopes of re-opening it with a new operator.

The previous occupant, Nikita’s Metro Auto Body Service, was shut down by the Department of Revenue (DOR) in March over $58,000 in unpaid taxes.

According to Robert Bliss, DOR’s director of communications, the property owners, George and Hariklia Koronios and Metro Realty Trust, made a payment to DOR to purchase some of the equipment seized from Nikita’s.

“I believe it’s his intention to get another operator in there,” Bliss told the Gazette.

The office was gutted early this month.

Car-sharing company Zipcar continues to use the site as a location, with as many as eight vehicles using the site for parking.

The owner of the property is not liable for those back taxes.

Neither the Koronioses nor Metro Realty Trust could be reached for comment.
