Eatery break-in fails

HYDE SQ.—A man hurled a cinder block into a window of the El Oriental de Cuba restaurant early on June 4 in an apparent burglary attempt. But the glass only cracked and the suspect ran away, according to El Oriental owner Nobel Garcia.

Garcia said there is no apparent connection with the infamous 2005 firebombing of the restaurant at 416 Centre St.

“I think he was looking for a little drug money,” Garcia said of the suspect. “You don’t get hungry at 3:30 in the morning.”

Garcia said that restaurant security cameras captured good images of the suspect—a man in black hoodie and red hat—parking nearby, spending a long time casing the area, and then hurling the cinder block.
