School honored for fitness

HYDE SQ.—The John F. Kennedy Elementary School was among 275 schools nationwide honored last week for creating a program to combat childhood obesity.

The Kennedy School’s Fitness Club, which offers such prizes as water bottles and book bags to students who engage in active exercise, won a Bronze Award from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, founded by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation.

At a June 13 ceremony in Little Rock, Ark., former President Bill Clinton congratulated Boston Public Schools representatives.
