Major project’s advisory group named

STONYBROOK—In preparation for the community process about a proposed major development on the corner of Washington and McBride streets, an Impact Advisory Group (IAG) has been selected.

The first, unpublicized meeting of the IAG took place July 13.

The 11 members of the IAG were nominated by residents and elected officials and appointed by Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) Director Peter Meade. They will advise the BRA on the project’s expected impact and any mitigation measures deemed necessary for the redevelopment of 3529 Washington St., currently occupied by the Flanagan & Seaton Motor Car Company.

All IAG meetings are open to the public, though “they are working sessions for the IAG members and public testimony is not taken unless the IAG members choose to allow it,” said BRA spokesperson Jessica Shumaker.

The next IAG meeting will be scheduled after the developers submit their project to the BRA, which is expected to be by the end of the month. The BRA’s process will include at least one community meeting to present and discuss the project.

In a preliminary presentation, the developers said they plan on a complete demolition of the existing Flanagan & Seaton buildings, according to IAG member Bernie Doherty.

The 11 IAG members are: Edward Burke, Andy Schell, Stephen Lussier, Bill McCartin, Curdina Hill, Marie Turley, Doherty, Frederick Vetterlein, Dickie Spears, Tobias Johnson and Justin Humphries.

The preliminary site plan, presented to the Stonybrook Neighborhood Association in April by developers New Boston Ventures and SSG Development and consultant Harry Collings, called for a 22,000-square-foot, two-story retail space facing Washington Street, a four-story self-storage facility and 30 units of housing along Burnett Street.
