Alexander Scott Arredondo, at an Aug. 7 ceremony at First Baptist Church. Alex grew up in JP and was killed in Iraq six years ago at age 20 while checking on his troops. “He enjoyed life. He enjoyed Jamaica Plain,” said Mayor Thomas Menino at the ceremony. U.S. Rep. Mike Capuano said it was a “small thing” for him to push through the renaming, but it is a “humungous thing” for Alex and other troops to give their lives for their country. Alex is also memorialized on a sign at St. Rose and South streets, and on his father’s pick-up truck, a mobile anti-war display that he frequently parks in JP.
