‘Catio’ Dining

(Gazette Photo by John Ruch) The outdoor patio at Tres Gatos at 470 Centre St., its stone floor made to look like a cat, is open for business. The patio is the work of Rich Gargiulo Jr. of JP’s TreeWorks & Earth Design and is based on a cat drawing by his 5-year-old daughter Sofia. The “catio” plays off the name of the tapas bar and book and record store, which means “Three Cats” in Spanish. “I’m a frustrated sculptor,” said Gargiulo, whose work includes the unusual stone landscaping at a 51 Green St. home. He said he has an idea for another patio in the form of a flower: “I’m just waiting for the right person to do it.”
