Nira Rock to get better entrance

HYDE SQ.—The Nira Rock Urban Wild will get a nicer entrance from Arcola Street under a Boston Parks Department plan slated for the spring.

The work could include a new seating area, repaired stone steps and the removal of a chain link fence, according to Parks Department spokesperson Jacque Goddard.

The improvements came from a years-old master plan that only now has some funding, according to Will Crosby of Friends of Nira Rock.

Public meetings would be held before any work, Goddard said.

Nira Rock is a city-owned but privately maintained wooded area off Nira Avenue. For more information, see nirarock.org.
