Fred Ciampa, owner of Same Old Place, dies

Fred Ciampa, the long-time owner of Same Old Place pizza parlor at 662 Centre St, died unexpectedly last night. He was 69.

“He was a healthy man. It was sudden,” daughter Gina Ciampa said when asked about the cause of death.

Funeral services are still begin planned, Ciampa added.

“They built Jamaica Plain around him, he’s been here that long,” Bob McDonell told the Gazette. “JP is really going to miss him, and I will too.”

“He was a great man and a great friend to a lot of people,” state Rep. Jeffrey Sánchez said.

Same Old Place has been a JP landmark since 1977.

  • Going to miss Freddy.  Been going to the Same old Place for pizza since he opened and I love the food.  Freddy was so nice, and always good to me and my friends.  Will miss him.  Sad to know he passed.    Rest in Peace Freddy.
