JP man charged in double shooting at strip club

A Jamaica Plain man is charged with assault with intent to murder in the shooting of two men inside a downtown strip club earlier today.

Steve Gayle, 34, allegedly was still carrying a handgun that was cocked and ready to fire when he was arrested by Boston Police officers following the double shooting at the Glass Slipper on LaGrange Street.

Gayle was in court earlier today to face charges of armed assault with intent to murder; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; and unlawful possession of a gun and ammo. He is being held on $250,000 bail, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

According to the DA’s Office, one of the victims is expected to survive, while the other is in critical condition. Homicide investigators from the Boston Police Department and the DA’s Office have been called in due to “the gravity of the primary victim’s injuries,” according to the DA’s Office. Neither victim has been identified and prosecutors have not discussed any motive for the shootings.

Gayle was arrested on Washington Street downtown after being followed by a Boston Police officer working a paid detail at another nearby club. Police allegedly found a plastic bag containing 16 rounds of ammunition in a backpack Gayle was wearing.

Gayle is slated to return to court on Sept. 12.
