Hyde/Jackson Main Street gets new head

Hyde/Jackson Square Main Street (HJSMS) reportedly has a new executive director, though the chair of the business promotion organization’s board did not respond to requests for confirmation.

A man identifying himself as HJSMS’s new executive director contacted the Gazette in late July, but declined to speak about the position on the record pending an official announcement from the board of directors. That announcement has not come, and board president Jason LaGorga did not return repeated Gazette phone calls.

HJSMS is regrouping from a scandal a year ago, when former Executive Director Carlos Schillaci resigned amid a still-unresolved investigation into a missing $20,000 of the organization’s funds. Earlier this year, HJSMS hired an interim executive director, Katie Reed, whose job included helping to hire a full-time executive director.

Once an influential voice in the community, HJSMS has been largely dormant since last year’s scandal, which caused the City of Boston to review the policies that closely tie it with various Main Streets organizations around town.
