JP library closing for electrical upgrade

SOUTH ST.—The Jamaica Plain Branch of the Boston Public Library (BPL) at 12 Sedgwick St. will be closed from Nov. 17 to Dec. 3 to undergo electrical upgrades.

The JP Branch will also have all its lighting fixtures rebuilt and rewired to accommodate higher efficiency bulbs. The work was approved as part of $75,000 in maintenance and upgrades as part the latest city budget.

During the closure period, the JP Branch’s and media will not be available, nor will the branch book drop. Users are encouraged to use the Connolly Branch, at 433 Centre St. Museum passes normally available from the JP Branch will also be available at the Connolly.

Friends of the JP Branch Library co-chair Gretchen Grozier said that the organization is still pushing for a complete renovation of the branch. The last major renovations to the building were done in the 1960s.
