EGLESTON SQ.—A firefighter at Egleston Square’s Engine 42 firehouse was arrested Feb. 26 after allegedly buying heroin nearby while on duty, according to the Boston Police Department.

Stephen Hogan, 24, of Dorchester resigned shortly after the arrest. Boston Fire Department spokesperson Steve MacDonald declined to comment on whether BFD views it as an isolated case or something requiring a review of the 1870 Columbus Ave. firehouse.

Hogan was arrested after officers with the Boston Police Drug Control Unit allegedly spotted him entering a vehicle and walking with a plastic bag containing heroin in the area of Columbus Avenue and Bray Street.
