Deadline passes for entering city election

The deadline has passed to pull nomination papers for the municipal elections, with 24 candidates entering the mayoral race. One Jamaica Plain resident—At-Large City Councilor Felix Arroyo—has pulled papers for that race.

For the At-Large City Councilor race, 27 candidates have thrown their hats into ring, including JPers Julie Ann Larson, George John Rigas and Douglas Wohn. JP resident Shaun Ivers did not pull nomination papers after saying he would.

The District 6 City Council seat, which covers the majority of JP, has three candidates: JPers Julie Ann Larson and Matt O’Malley, the current office holder, and West Roxbury’s Luis Valerio.

The District 4 City Council seat, which covers the Woodbourne section of JP, has eight candidates, none of whom are JP residents. The current office holder, Charles Yancey, is one of the eight candidates. Yancey also pulled papers for the mayoral race.

Mayoral candidates had to garner 3,000 signatures by May 21, after the Gazette deadline, to get on the ballot. At-Large City Councilor candidates need 1,500 signatures, while District City Councilor candidates require 200 signatures.
