101 Brookley Road is sold

A long-vacant property at 101 Brookley Road was sold late last week for over $2 million to a limited liability company (LLC).

Chestnut Hill-based Buildex Real Estate, LLC bought the property from Boston-based Planet Street, LLC on June 27 for $2.18 million, according to public land records.

“We’re really interested to hear what that might mean for the property,” Stonybrook Neighborhood Association steering committee member Carl Lowenberg told the Gazette this week.

A Gazette phone call to Buildex Manager Yan Schecter was not returned by press time.

The 1.7-acre Brookley Road parcel is in a residential area within sight of Franklin Park and has been vacant since 2006, following the demolition of a nursing home. Throughout the years, various housing projects had been proposed, including artist housing, though none ever happened. Planet Street’s own plan for building condos on the property had been stalled for several years.

As recently as last year, Planet Street owed up to $7,000 in unpaid property taxes to the City. It had also been cited by the city’s Inspectional Services Department (ISD) numerous times for improper trash storage and overgrown weeds.
