Casey Overpass to close for ’emergency repairs’ in October

The Casey Overpass will close for two days in October for “emergency repairs,” according to a Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) press release.

The bridge, which carries Route 203/Arborway over Washington and New Washington Streets, will close Oct. 5 and Oct. 6 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. to allow the repair of 17 deck spans, according to MassDOT. That will allow the bridge to remain open during snowstorms in the winter.

The repairs must be done during dry weather and three additional weekends will most likely be needed to complete the work, according to MassDOT. The agency did not say when those additional weekend repairs would take place.

Detours will be in place during the repairs. For more information about the detours, visit goo.gl/maps/xFNaW and goo.gl/maps/G3Zc0.

The Casey Arborway, an at-grade surface street network, will replace the crumbling Casey Overpass. Construction is expected to begin in 2014.
