Sewing with a Heart

Sixteen JP residents, many of them from the Nate Smith House and Angela Westover House facilities managed by Peabody Properties, recently joined the “$1 Million Pillowcase Challenge,” a charity sewing effort by the magazine American Patchwork & Quilting. Among those joining in were (from left) Carmen Espinal, Marcelina Velasquez, Adelaida Pulido, Rita Lopes, Carmen Montalvo, Enercida Andujar and Gloria Andujar, pictured here in July at the Nate Smith House on Lamartine Street in the midst of the three-month project. The JP participants created 65 pillowcases, which they donated to Massachusetts General Hospital and Shriners Hospitals for Children. (Courtesy Photo)
