JP man charged with child porn, firearms offenses

SUMNER HILL—A Jamaica Plain man has been charged with distributing child pornography and firearms offenses after investigators executed a search warrant at his 76 Elm St. home Oct. 3, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s (DA) Office.

Martin Kollar, 57, was arraigned Oct. 4 in JP’s West Roxbury District Court on charges of possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and several firearm offenses. Bail was set at $25,000 and Kollar was ordered to wear a GPS monitor, stay away from schools and parks, have no contact with children under age 16, and refrain from using computers or the Internet if he posts bail.

Kollar was represented for bail purposes by attorney Kirsten O’Brien. She did not respond to a request for comment. Kollar, who is due back in court Oct. 31, also did not respond to a request for comment.

State Police learned that a user of a peer-to-peer file-sharing program was distributing video clips and images of child pornography, according to the DA’s Office. Troopers connected with that user’s computer through the program and identified numerous files believed to contain explicit images of children. Investigators were able to obtain the user’s information through a subpoena, which led to Kollar’s Elm Street apartment.

Boston Police and agents from the FBI and the Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force executed a search warrant Oct. 3 at Kollar’s residence, which recovered computers and other electronic devices that allegedly contained child pornography, according to the DA’s Office. Authorities also allegedly found an improperly stored .22 caliber rifle with scope and additional ammunition. Kollar does not have a license to carry a firearm, according to the DA’s Office.
