Church deal appears ready to close

The deal to have the Hyde Square Task Force (HSTF) buy the former Blessed Sacrament Church building at 365 Centre St. from Church Square Partners is close to being finished, according to HSTF spokesperson Pat Gray.

“We are involved in the process leading up to the closing and plan to close very soon,” said Gray in a Jan. 15 email to the Gazette. “However, we do not have a date yet.”

HSTF entered into a purchase-and-sale agreement to buy the church building in early July from the Church Square Partners, which is a partnership between the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC) and New Atlantic Development. A purchase-and-sale agreement typically lasts 120 days and allows the parties to vet the deal. HSTF and the Church Square Partners agreed to extend the closing date last fall.

JPNDC and New Atlantic Development bought the Blessed Sacrament Church campus in 2005 and had planned to turn the church into condos. HSTF has said it will use the church building for community space.
