JACKSON SQ.—Two teens are facing attempted murder charges after allegedly shooting a man outside a Bromley-Heath public housing development building on Jan. 27.
The victim, a man in his twenties found by Boston Police officers outside 49 Horan Way, suffered “non-life-threatening” injuries, according to the Boston Police Department. A short time later, officers arrested two teens matching the descriptions of suspects seen fleeing the scene, according to BPD.
The teens charged with the afternoon shooting are a 17-year-old from Roxbury and a 15-year-old from Dorchester, according to Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Jake Wark. Their names are not being released because they are juveniles.
Both teens are charged with armed assault with intent to murder and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. The 15-year-old is also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.
The teens are being held on $250,000 cash bail. In addition, the 15-year-old was already out on bail in a previous assault case, and that bail was revoked, according to Wark.
The charges are all technically “delinquency” cases because of the defendants’ ages. They will be tried in Boston Juvenile Court.
Authorities have not released any motive in the shooting.
Gun violence has been a problem in Bromley-Heath for decades, largely related to illegal drug-dealing and street gang rivalries. There was a drop in shootings after a 2012 police crackdown and Boston Housing Authority security upgrades. But now there have been three shootings in that area in the past six months.
