Firefighter Memorial

A memorial to two firefighters killed in a March 26 Back Bay fire was created at the Soldier’s Monument in Monument Square on March 28 by Carlos Arredondo, a well-known Roslindale peace activist and Boston Marathon bombing rescue hero. American flags, a firefighters’ flag, wings and white crosses bearing the names of Fire Lt. Edward J. Walsh Jr., 43, and Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy, 33, were prominently arranged. Arredondo has created several makeshift memorials in Monument Square in recent years, including for the marathon bombing and the Sandy Hook school shooting. (Gazette Photo by Rebeca Oliveira)
