New music festival coming to JP

If you are a Jamaica Plain resident who is a fan of the musical festival Somerville Porchfest, you soon won’t have to travel out of the neighborhood to enjoy that type of experience.

Marie Ghitman and Mindy Fried are organizing the first annual Jamaica Plain Porchfest that will be held on porches throughout the neighborhood on July 19. The plan is to have bands play on the porches of houses.

“We’re beginning to meet with local nonprofits, like Hyde Square Task Force and the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation, to broaden our reach, and there’s a great deal of enthusiasm,” said Fried in an email to the Gazette. “Our goal is to create an awesome community event with musicians that reflect the diversity of our neighborhood.”

The organizers have more than 20 bands booked to play. To see the list of bands or to get more information, visit facebook.com/jamaicaplainporchfest.
