Demolition of the recently vacated MBTA building at 500 Arborway will not happen this summer as previously announced. Instead, bids for the project will go out in the fall, according to MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo.
No specific demolition dates are yet known. The MBTA usually takes two to three months to select a contractor, he said, which would mean demolition will not start before late fall at the earliest.
The demolition is part of site preparation for a new bus maintenance facility planned there, though that plan is currently unfunded. A temporary facility operates elsewhere on the same property.
The City of Boston is relocating a pole yard from the Arborway site to American Legion Highway as another part of the site prep.
