Revamped Centre Street Café to reopen in fall

A revamped Centre Street Café, which is located at 669A Centre St., will reopen in late September or early October, according to new owner David Doyle.

Doyle and other business partners, who also own the restaurant and book-and-music store Tres Gatos, bought the Centre Street Café from Felicia Sanchez and closed it last month for renovations.

“Out of respect for Felicia and the restaurant’s longstanding tradition in JP, we have opted to keep the name the same,” said Doyle in an email to the Gazette. “We like the fact that the name implies a JP neighborhood-based restaurant, which is what we will continue to be.”

He said that head chefs are currently being interviewed and that no details about the menu have been decided. But, Doyle said, plans are to continue the restaurant’s “very popular weekend brunch tradition.”

For years, a long line of customers waiting for a table in the small restaurant was a regular Sunday brunchtime scene.

“On behalf of the entire team, I can say that we are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to continue the great Centre Street Café tradition started by Felicia Sanchez, and look forward to introducing an Italian menu and wine list that we believe JP would appreciate,” he said.
