Indian food may come to Forest Hills

A new Indian restaurant may be coming to Forest Hills.

Punjab Foods, Inc., doing business as Tikki Masala Indian Restaurant, received the support of the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council’s Public Service Committee for a food and beer and wine license at its Aug. 5 meeting. The approval stipulates a a 10 p.m. closing and that alcohol be served only with food.

According to committee Chairman Michael Reiskind, the applicant, Somdutt Sharma, has eight years experience running a market and deli in Waltham, as well as working as a waiter in an Indian restaurant. It will be a family business with Sharma, his wife and their son operating the business.

Sharma promised to not have any pulldown security grates, to keep the place litter-free, to have bilingual menus, and to discourage double-parking. Members of the audience spoke in favor of the application, emphasizing that this area of Forest Hills needs good business development, Reiskind said.

The proposed location, 3706 Washington St., has been vacant for over a year.
