Letter: Take a pledge against texting while driving

Texting and driving has become a serious public safety hazard in recent years. While we’ve passed laws to outlaw it and will continue to punish people who cause an accident, we must educate drivers before more people are hurt or killed.

My colleagues and I at City Hall are working to spread the word about “It Can Wait,” a national public education campaign that focuses on the dangers of texting while driving. Sept. 19 was “Drive 4 Pledges Day” for It Can Wait, and there were educational programs and events in in Massachusetts and across the country. I urge your readers to visit itcanwait.com to take the pledge and spread the word—it can wait!
