Holidays in JP: Buy a pie, feed those in need

Buy a pie and feed those in need this holiday season.

That’s the simple—and delicious—formula for “Pie in the Sky,” the annual holiday fundraiser for the Jamaica Plain-based nonprofit Community Servings. But hurry—tomorrow, Nov. 22, is the last day to place a pie order.

Community Servings, located at 18 Marbury Terrace, cooks and delivers meals to homebound individuals and families with such critical illnesses as HIV/AIDS and cancer, and who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves.

For Pie in the Sky, more than 150 Greater Boston bakers, restaurants and caterers create a variety of holiday pies. In JP, the participating pie-makers include Bella Luna Restaurant, Blue Frog Bakery, Fiore’s Bakery, Springhouse Senior Living, Whole Foods Market and Community Servings itself.

Each pie costs $28. Community Servings reports on its website that 93 percent of that donation goes directly to funds for feeding its clients.

The pies will be available for pick-up on Nov. 26 at various Greater Boston locations. Locally, the pick-up spots include Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, Community Servings and Springhouse.
