Letter: Meeting needed on mail delivery problems

The following letter was sent to U.S. Rep. Steven Lynch:

Mail delivery in my neighborhood of Jamaica Plain has been erratic and unpredictable. ( Repeated calls to the Mark Stokes Supervisor of Customer Service at the 02130 post office have been fruitless. Complaints to the Boston postmaster have been fruitless, too.

In 12 delivery days, we have received mail only three times. Despite snow, my neighbors on the odd side of the street have received mail, but those of us on the even side have not.

The excuses we hear vary: Our block is at the end of the route; the carriers are tired; the streets are bad; carriers cant access the relay box; the carrier has been ordered to be back at the post office at 7 p.m.

The best answer of all was the one I received from a female staffer on Feb. 12, and I am quoting her directly: “You are at our mercy.”

The exact same problem occurred last year at this time.

I would like to ask your help on this matter. I would like to suggest that you consider holding a public hearing on what appears to me to be a dysfunctional post office.

I have also suggested the hearing idea to Rep. Liz Malia and City Councilor Matt O’Malley.

Thank you for your help.
