Parents and children did not let the rainy weather dampen their spirits, as they came out in numbers for a “Flash Rhyme Mob” event at the Bromley-Heath housing development on April 17.
About 60 children between the ages of 3 and 5 participated in the event, which took place outside the Nurtury Learning Lab at 33 Bickford St. Parents and children performed several rhymes, including “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes,” “Old MacDonald,” and “I’m a Little Teapot.” The group also fittingly performed “Singin’ in the Rain.”
“We’ve had a great time despite the weather,” said Lauren Morse, outreach and partnership coordinator at the Nurtury Learning Lab.
She said the event was for children to get into the “rhyming spirit,” have a “fun and educational way” to add literacy to their lives and prepare them for kindergarten. Morse thanked the many parents who volunteered for the event.
Ron Ancrum, executive director of the early-education nonprofit Nurtury, said the organization was glad to team up with the City to put on the event and that “This is what we are all about.”
The event helped celebrate the 5th annual Talk, Read, Play Day. “Flash Rhyme Mob” events were held throughout the city on April 17.
