Editorial: Democracy!

Democracy was in its finest form on Sept. 8 for the City’s preliminary election. A robust 7 percent of voters turned out for two competitive City Council races out of a possible 10. City officials ensured that the election would be a raving success, selecting the day after Labor Day and the start of the Boston Public Schools’ year for residents to head to the polls—most of which are at schools.

Luckily, the city is not facing any issues that would have benefited from thoughtful debates between incumbents and challengers. No one is crazy enough to attempt to bring the Olympics to Boston, we’re still waiting for someone to invent cameras small enough to be able to record police actions, and housing is plentiful and has never been cheaper.
