Editorial: Functioning government

Having public meetings to discuss ideas is an integral part of a functional and healthy government. But those ideas have to bear fruit in a timely fashion for people to respect and trust their government.

The state Department of Conservation and Recreation held a community meeting more than two years ago on improving access to Jamaica Pond at the intersection of Francis Parkman Drive and Perkins Street. But yet, nothing has been done. Residents from Cabot Estate and other areas have to continue to face a dangerous situation when crossing to visit Jamaica Pond, one of the neighborhood’s crown jewels.

DCR is expected to hold another meeting on improvements for that area. A meeting, we should add, that DCR has promised and not delivered before. We urge DCR to promptly implement the fixes and not leave an accident waiting to happen.
