Obituary: Jesse Zackular, former JP resident, dies

Jesse Zackular, a former Jamaica Plain resident, died on Nov. 6.

Zackular was born in Malden on July 15, 1974, the son of Patricia (Fitzgerald) Zackular and the late Artie Zackular, Jr. Jesse was a longtime resident of Jamaica Plain.

Jesse, also known as Slim Goodbody, was the bass player for the punk mambo band Babaloo. The band was established at the Hole Cafe in 1994. Jesse built an extensive Reggae music collection, which he shared as a disc jockey with Dada’s House of Hits. His love of Reggae music was coupled with his love and knowledge of West Indian and African history, politics and culture. He embodied “One Love, One People” and practiced it daily.

Jesse died suddenly at home in Dorchester surrounded by his family on Nov. 6. His family was blessed to have the best of Jesse for his last 45 days. He loved his children and family: Lucy-Rose, who passed at birth; Patricia; Shamus; Jesse Jr.; Gigi; and Desi; their mothers, Janeve and Jenny; his mother, Patricia Zackular; his brothers, Rick Blair and Dana Grinnell; and his mother-in-law, Jean Connelly.

A Memorial Mass was held on Nov. 14 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Roxbury. His cremated remains are interred with his late father in Glenwood Cemetery in Everett.
