Letter: Cats belong inside

Animals large and small typically live in our homes because we make that choice. Sometimes things don’t work out. In those cases, there are shelters that will accept and attempt to adopt those for whom it may be a wrong fit. I have a cat living with me in my apartment. He does not go outside because cats and dogs and domesticated pets don’t belong outdoors, especially in the city and/or in the freezing cold. They get hit by vehicles, get in fights with other animals, or pick up a deadly disease. Yet I see what look like once-loved cats roaming the JP streets all hours of the day. None of us are perfect, myself included, but in my humble opinion, if you adopt a cat and then throw it out of your home that makes you a sub-par human being.
