Hyde Square eatery closes

The Aurum Restaurant, a diner in Hyde Square known for its calzone-like hand pies, has closed, according to a post by owner Matt Virzi on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

“I can’t tell you enough how much I appreciate your patronage over the last 3 years,” he wrote in the post, “but I have decided to focus my energy on my growing catering and wholesale businesses.
(Hand pies coming to a store near you soon?)”

Aurum, which was located at 377 Centre St., opened on Jan. 12, 2014, replacing a Kennedy Fried Chicken that used to be at the location.

Virzi wrote that people can still order catering or frozen pies at aurumjp.com.

“Thanks especially to the Hyde Square neighborhood for being such a great place to operate a business!” Virzi wrote.
