Footlight Club kicks off its 141st season

Telling the story of the Neverland that you never knew, The Footlight Club’s 141st Season Opener “Peter and the Starcatcher” opens in Jamaica Plain on Sept. 16, according to a press release.

Award winning “Peter and the Starcatcher” is the prequel to J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. It tells the story of orphans that defeat a band of pirates and island natives in order to keep treasure in the right hands. Along the way, Peter learns what it means to have a family and to be the boy who doesn’t grow up.

The production is directed by Julia Deter, who was last seen at the Footlight Club in the cast and Dance Captain for “Spamalot!” in 2013. The show is assistant-directed by Alicia Powell, a JP resident who recently played Ms. Kraplinski in the Footlight’s production of “Promises, Promises.”

The show will run for six shows from Sept. 16 through Sept. 30. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Sept. 16, 22, 23, and 30; with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on Sept. 17 and 30. Tickets are $22/$20 for members and seniors, and are available through the box office; or at www.footlight.org.

The Footlight Club’s 141st season will continue in November with “The Music Man”, and in February “Sarah Ruhl’s “In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play.” In April the club will show the musical “Heathers the Musical”, and in June the Club closes the season with “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder.

The Footlight Club is located at 7A Eliot St. in Jamaica Plain and is America’s oldest Community Theater.
