Blessed Sacrament church to get upgraded flower boxes

The Blessed Sacrament Church at 365 Centre St., in Hyde Square, will soon get an artistic upgrade to its front flower boxes.

On the evening of Aug. 22, the Boston Landmarks Commission approved the artist Richard Youngstrom to install a two-year temporary mosaic tile on the outside to lighten up and give an ode to the Latin Corridor.

The existing flower boxes that sit in front of the pending landmark church currently showcase falling apart concrete with small trees and vines growing inside.

The mosaic piece will be attached on top of the existing concrete planter. It will be made of mild steel, welded and powder coated. The mosaic piece will be made up of glass tile and attached using special washers, nuts, and bolts.

The artist will have to return for a renewed approval two years from now if they want to continue the installation.
