The Housing and Economic Development Committee of the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council (JPNC) will meet Tuesday, July 17 at 7 pm at the Bowditch School, 82 Green Street.
Updates, Committee officer – vice chair, Presentation from Nesterly on its service for intergenerational homesharing, Review of open issues before the Committee. All meetings are open to the public.

An informational update on Shattuck Supportive Housing (formerly Low Threshold Housing) will be presented to the Asset Management Board at its July 17, 2018 meeting which will be held at One Ashburton Place, 21st Floor, Conference Rooms 2 and 3, Boston, at 3PM.  The Board is not being asked to vote at this meeting.  This business meeting is open to the public but is not a public hearing.  As such, the Board does not plan to take public comment at this meeting.

JP Zoning Committee, Committee’s next regularly-scheduled meeting will be July 25th at Farnsworth House.  The agenda for that meeting will include four related matters – 125 and 125A Amory Street (subdivide 262,250 square foot parcel into Lot 1A (52,856 square feet) and Lot 100 (209,394 square feet), with existing six-story multifamily residence and two-story office/elder care building on lot; other buildings on site to be razed); 101 Amory Street – Building A (erect a six-story multi-family dwelling with 147 rental apartments and 57 below-grade parking spaces); and 127 Amory Street – Building B (erect a six-story multi-family dwelling with 140 rental apartments and 58 below-grade parking spaces); as well as two additional matters – 368 Centre Street (change occupancy from jewelry boutique to take-out restaurant use) and 22-24 Adelaide Street (change occupancy from a two-family to a three-family dwelling to create a caretaker’s apartment by creating accessible rear-entry and attached garage and renovating first-floor unit for accessibility; replace back porches and egress stairs).  After July 25th, the Committee’s next upcoming meetings will be August 8th and August 22nd.

Impact Advisory Group (IAG) meeting to discuss the proposed

Legal Services Center Offers Summer Self-Help Extended Hours in June and July in Jamaica Plain, extended walk-in hours this summer on Tuesdays from 5-7 pm during June and July to provide self-help resources and referral information. The Legal Services Center provides free legal help for individuals facing housing, consumer, student loan, domestic violence, tax, veterans, and public benefits issues. All community members are invited to visit the Center, learn about its work, and meet with staff members to receive self-help resources and referral information. Healthy Families EITC Coalition. Join the Healthy Families EITC Coalition for a Celebration of Advocacy on July 24th from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Anna M. Cole Center (10 Lamartine St. Jamaica Plain, MA 02130). The Anna M. Cole Center is on Mildred Hailey’s campus and adjacent to the Jackson Square stop. The event will celebrate the increase of the state Earned Income Tax Credit to 30% of the federal credit which helps families make ends meet and connect members of the community with local organizations through a resource fair from 6:30pm-7:00pm. Join us on July 24th to learn about EITC, how it helps families make ends meet, and how tax filers can access EITC for free. Healthy Kids Running Series (HKRS) is a series of races and competitions held on consecutive Sunday afternoons in the fall and spring for kids ages 3 – 8th grade, and it is a really great way for kids to experience fun competition, enjoy the outdoors and get in some activity on a (hopefully) nice weekend afternoon. parkrun is a grassroots, community running event, run by volunteers for the local running and walking community. We hold free timed 5k events every week.  Everyone is invited to run, jog or walk for 5k (two laps around the pond). We are very proud to be the first parkrun in Boston, MA. Its

Academic Announcements

Eliza Thomas of Jamaica Plain, MA (02130) graduated with a BA in Geology from Carleton College at its 144th Commencement exercises, held on Saturday, June 9, 2018. Eliza Thomas was elected to the Sigma Xi honor society. Election to the Carleton Chapter of Sigma Xi, a national honor society, indicates that a student has demonstrated evidence of research potential in a field of pure or applied science.

Jordan Brown of Jamaica Plain, MA, graduated this spring from Ohio Wesleyan University. Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Students at Lehigh University attained Dean’s List in Spring 2018. This status is granted to students who earned a scholastic average of 3.6 or better while carrying at least 12 hours of regularly graded courses.
