O’MALLEY AT JP PORCHFEST

City Councilor Matt O’Malley on July 7 sang a Jamaica Plain spin-off of the “We Didn’t Start the Fire” by Billy Joel. The music was part of “the Politician’s Porch” at 26 Grovenor Road for Jamaica Plain Porchfest. The councilor’s version replaced Billy Joel’s 1950s-1980s references with local Jamaica Plain restaurants, people, and news. O’Malley reinvented the classic song to celebrate the neighborhood he represents. Also featured as a backup singer for the song was the Mayor of Parkland, Florida, Christine Hunschofsky, who led the Parkland community through a tragic school shooting earlier this year. Hunschofsky, a friend of the councilor’s, grew up in O’Malley’s district and returned home to visit relatives and attend porchfest.
