Children’s Summer Programming at Tony Williams Dance Center

The Tony Williams Dance Center, located in the Sam Adams Brewery Complex in Jamaica Plain, is rolling out exciting opportunities to engage children and teens during the summer of 2019.

The Center is offering Full Day Fun Camp for children ages 5 through 14. Each of the seven weeks between June and August will feature ballet, select other dance styles, art and drama, as well as your typical summer camp fun-in-the-sun activities. Fun themed weeks, like their Princesses and Princes week, aim to entice younger dancers. The day camp runs from 9am to 3pm Monday through Friday and costs $325 per week. Discounts are offered for multiple weeks, as well as sibling registration.

In addition, the Center will be hosting summer ballet classes for children 3 through 18. The one-hour classes meet every Tuesday from July 16 until August 27 and cost $17 per class.

For older children, the Center offers a chance to assist teachers with classes as a way to develop leadership skills, hone their techniques and earn credits toward additional classes.

“The mentorship program allows our teen dancers aged 12+ to continue gaining dance training through repetition of the instructor’s technique to show to the younger camp students,” said the Center’s Operations Manager Dustin Rennells. “We do this year-round in our classes, but it’s especially necessary during camp when many students have never taken dance before.”

The Center also works with social services organizations to help assist parents who cannot meet the financial investment required.

According to its website, the mission of Tony Williams Dance Center is to “provide quality dance instruction to a diverse urban community.” Founded by Tony Williams, a JP native and former lead dancer with the Boston Ballet, it is responsible for the wildly successful annual production of Urban Nutcracker, which blends high-energy street dance with Tchaikovsky’s classic holiday ballet.

Parents are encouraged to enroll their children early for summer programming at the Center.
