Sano to Attend Tufts University

MassBay Engineering graduate, Sanoli Sano of Jamaica Plain,  will attend Tufts University to purse a degree in their engineering program. She plans to study Civil and Environmental Engineering and earn her bachelor’s degree, with career goal of working with the City of Boston on their plan to become a carbon free city by 2050.

Sanoli was born and raised in the Dominican Republic before moving to Massachusetts three years ago. Since coming to MassBay, she has worked closely with MassBay’s STEM Starter Academy (SSA) program. The SSA program is a statewide Massachusetts Department of Higher Education grant program that engages, recruits, supports, and assists in transferring more underserved students in STEM majors. Through her activities with the SSA program, she has conducted high school and community outreach for MassBay’s STEM programs, represented MassBay’s STEM division at external and internal events, served on student information panels, and led engaging, interactive, hands-on STEM activities for high school students. She participates in the STEM Mentor Program at MassBay, where STEM students are matched with STEM professionals to provide another layer of academics and transfer guidance in a specific STEM field. She is a member of the Society of Women Engineers, an advocate at El Centro Del Cardenal in Boston, MA for English Language Learners, promotes the importance of English as a Second Language (ESL) programs in the Boston community, and speaks three languages.

While at MassBaySanoli worked full-time and attended classes full-time, while maintaining a 3.723 GPA, and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She received her associate degree in Engineering on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at MassBay’s commencement ceremony.
