Friends of Jamaica Pond to host community celebration honoring Frederick Law Olmsted

      The Friends of Jamaica Pond invites the community to a free, family-friendly celebration on Sunday, April 26 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Jamaica Pond, honoring the birthday of renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, the visionary behind Boston’s iconic Emerald Necklace park system.

      This lively afternoon will bring together neighbors, families, and community partners for a celebration of nature, history, and community spirit at one of Boston’s most treasured green spaces.

      Event highlights include:

      • Jamaica Pond Nature Center

      • A “Horse-of-Course” presentation featuring live horses by the Boston Park Rangers

      • A collaborative mural project facilitated by South Street Youth Center

      • Arts activities led by Spontaneous Celebrations

      • Educational information and activities from the Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site

      • Updates from Boston Parks & Recreation on upcoming Boathouse and Bandstand renovations

      • Lawn games, conservation activities, face painting, and fiber arts hosted by Friends of Jamaica Pond

      The event celebrates Olmsted’s enduring legacy of designing parks as inclusive, accessible spaces for all people. His vision continues to shape Boston’s landscape and community life, making Jamaica Pond a vital gathering place for residents and visitors alike.
