The BASE, a nonprofit organization based in Roxbury, MA., which combines academics and athletics to help urban youth succeed, officially opens its new national headquarters. The new HQ – which features outdoor baseball/softball fields, indoor batting cages, and large SAT and college prep classrooms – was made possible by the Lewis Family Foundation. Participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony were business, community, and government leaders, including (right to left), Allyce Najimy, Foundation To Be Named Later; Anthony Richards, Office of Governor Charlie Baker; William Gross, Boston Police Commissioner; Rachael Rollins, Suffolk County District Attorney; Charlotte Lewis and Juma Crawford, Lewis Family Foundation; Robert Lewis, Jr., Founder and CEO, The BASE; Adam Franklin, Franklin Sports, and (far left), Sue Sullivan, Newmarket Business Association. Also present were more than 400 student-athletes from around the country competing in the National Urban BASEball Classic in Boston.
