The victim was identified as Ricky Jones, a 39-year-old Boston resident. The car’s driver was identified as Teddy Smith, 26, of Canton. Police accuse Smith of speeding and driving recklessly. Smith was also charged with driving with a suspended license.
Witnesses reported that Smith’s Pontiac Grand Am hit the pedestrian around 8:50 p.m. in front of 3050 Washington St. at the intersection with Walnut Park, according to the police report. The Grand Am is owned by a Mattapan resident, according to the police report.
It was Jamaica Plain’s second major car-pedestrian accident within six weeks. On May 30, a drag racer hit a pedestrian on Hyde Park Avenue in Forest Hills, causing injuries so severe her leg had to be amputated, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
