Act now to reduce global warming

I love everything about JP, but I hate that the people of Massachusetts aren’t doing more to curb global warming. Global warming is not only making our planet hotter, but it is also increasing the occurrence and severity of extreme weather events around the world. Global average surface temperatures have risen at an alarming rate, and scientists now say that the causes are “unequivocally” manmade.

The burning of fossil fuels is directly linked to global warming. Ninety-six percent of our energy comes from dirty fuel sources. Transportation is a major contributor to this, and the energy we need for transpor-tation is only increasing.

It is time to switch to renewable energy. We need to get America off foreign oil and invested in clean renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. By cutting our dependence on oil in half, we can re-duce global warming pollution by 80 percent by the year 2050. The effects of global warming will only in-crease if we don’t act now.
