JACKSON SQ.—A young man was found dead of a “gunshot wound to the back of the head” in Jackson Square on Jan. 5, according to Boston Police Department (BPD) spokesperson Jill McLaughlin.

The victim was identified as Derek Crowder, 25, of Roxbury. There were no immediate suspects, McLaughlin said.

Crowder was found behind 265 Centre St., an address in the Bromley-Heath public housing development, according to BPD. It is not clear if the location is on Bromley-Heath property or on the MBTA T Station property next door. Capt. Thomas Grenham of the State Police, which patrol the adjacent Southwest Corridor Park, said his agency was not called in, which means the victim was not found in the park.

“We’re just gathering information,” said David Worrell, communications director at Bromley-Heath Tenant Management Corporation, on the morning the body was found.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Boston Police Department (BPD) Homicide Unit at 343-4470.
