Six candidates to fill the District 6 City Council seat vacated by John Tobin last month submitted signatures by the Aug. 19 deadline to get their names included on the Oct. 19 preliminary special election ballot.
The candidate hopefuls are: Jamaica Plain residents Kosta Demos, Jonathan McCurdy, Matt O’Malley and Sean Ryan, and West Roxbury residents Chun-Fai Chan and Jim Hennigan.
Their signatures and candidacies will be certified by the City of Boston Election Department by Sept. 2.
The deadline to register to vote in the preliminary is Sept. 29. The deadline for the Nov. 16 final election is Oct. 27.
Tobin quit the City Council last month to take a job as government liaison at Northeastern University.
