Lasting honor

(Courtesy Photo) The children of the late Melvia Patten—(from left) John Wright, Latonya Patten and Marvin Wright—celebrate the naming of the area around the Bromley-Heath housing development Rose Garden as Melvia Patten Square on Sept. 23. Patten, who died in 1996, was the longtime, influential director of Bromley-Heath’s Infant and Toddler Day Care Center and has a scholarship fund in her name. A 14-year effort by Bromley-Heath management and the Boston Housing Authority resulted in the naming of the square.
