Sawx fans, the players and many in the sports media need to lighten up re: their new manager, Bobby Valentine. They’re acting like small-town hicks, suspicious of the newcomer because he has a slight attitude and edge to him, and, no doubt in this case, because his hometown of Stamford is closer to N.Y.C. than Boston. Valentine is playing with the hand he was dealt, and while he might be slightly rusty in terms of making decisions on his feet and under pressure, he’ll come around if given the chance. Maybe Paplebon was right when he called Sox fans hysterical!
