Residents can now safely dispose of unused prescription or over-the-counter drugs at the local District E-13 Police Station at 3345 Washington St., where a kiosk is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Expired or unused medical drugs are a big source of drug abuse when they are not disposed of properly. They also may be a threat to the water supply if people use the common disposal method of flushing them down the toilet.
To combat the problems, various police stations began offering drug drop-off kiosks starting Nov. 1. The drug drop-off is anonymous and is for individuals only, not for businesses or commercial disposals. The medication should be in its original container, with any names or prescription numbers erased if possible.
