Obituary: Eleanor Elias

Eleanor Elias of Jamaica Plain, formerly of the South End, died on Sept. 28. She was 63 years old.

Born and raised in Boston, Eleanor owned and operated Sorella’s restaurant with her sister in Jamaica Plain for 32 years. Sorella’s, which is located at 388 Centre St., is a neighborhood institution and was a favorite of late Mayor Tom Menino.

Eleanor was the beloved daughter of the late Nassem and Minerva (Abazaid) Elias. Dear and devoted mother of Giuseppi and Sophia Ricciardi. Eleanor is survived by her brother, George Elias, five sisters, her stepmother, Mary Sarkis, and the father of her children, Joseph Ricciardi. She was sister of the late Georgette, Loretta, Sue and Shirley. Aunt of Bruce, Dylan, Lisa and many other nieces and nephews. Dear friend of the late Joanne Petrie and her family.

Eleanor’s family would like to thank friends, family and others involved in her care, especially Dr. R. Freedman.

Eleanor’s funeral service was held Oct. 1 at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eleanor’s memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Eleanor was laid to rest with her parents and her sister, Sue, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Boston.
