A homeless man was killed Feb. 18 by an apparent hit-and-run driver in front of the Shattuck Shelter at 170 Morton St.

The victim was identified as Paul Kelley, 50, by the Boston Police Department (BPD).

Police found Kelley lying on the ground, unconscious and badly injured, at 7:30 p.m. He later died at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. A doctor there said Kelley’s injuries appeared to have been caused by being hit by a motor vehicle, according to the BPD.

BPD spokesperson Elaine Driscoll said it appears Kelley stayed at the Shattuck Shelter at least occasionally.

Friends of the Shattuck Shelter, the non-profit organization that operates the shelter, referred questions to the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, which did not return a Gazette phone call for this article.

Anyone with information about Kelley’s death can contact the BPD Homicide Unit at 343-4470 or anonymously at 1-800-494-8477.
